Deutsches Kreuz in Gold
Light version produced by C.F. Zimmermann of Pforzheim and marked with their stamp “20”characteristcally under the pin. The German Cross in gold was awarded to military personnel in recognition of repetitive acts of valour or for exceptionally decisive combat command and repeated success. It is the Bridge award between the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross so its recipients were held in high esteem. This particular example was acquired by me from a Canadian Veteran’s family from his Grandson in Ottawa, with some other very interesting combat badges and period items. The Cross’s components are die-struck individually and then assembled expertly by craftsmen, the black enamel of the Swastika is nearly flawless, the rest of the cross down to the four rivets and semi-broad pin on the reverse is textbook in every way. All the details are executed crisply and this German Cross in Gold is in very fine condition.
